Another early esports success, Fnatic was founded in July 2004 and has become a global leader in many of the esports titles it participates in. Fnatic is based out of London but has an international roster. It also runs an independent digital agency called Sannpa which serves businesses looking to get into esports.
Fnatic has won first place in 209 championships across a selection of 30 games. As of 2020, Fnatic has teams in Apex Legends, CS:GO, Dota 2, FIFA, Fortnite, League of Legends, and Rainbow Six Siege. The team won the very first League of Legends World Championship in 2011 and has the record for the most League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) split titles in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC). Fnatic has seven of the thirteen played so far and also became the first LCS team to finish a split undefeated in the 2015 EU LCS Summer Split.
The team’s CS:GO performance is also viewed as one of the best in the Counter-Strike series history. Fnatic has won three Global Offensive majors.
Fnatic’s World of Warcraft team was acquired in 2006 and went on to place in major events such as BlizzCon, Intel Extreme Masters and Major League Gaming. It also acquired its first Dota team in 2007.
In early 2019 Fnatic raised $19 million in Series A funding, restructuring its leadership and progressing plans for expansion into Asian and North American esports. Later in 2019, Fnatic partnered with Japan’s Sanrio in a collaboration centred around promoting its Hello Kitty brand.
As per Esports Earnings, to March 2020, the team has won over $14 million from more than 800 esports tournaments. Fnatic’s highest-earning player ever is CS:GO, competitor, from Sweden, Jesper “JW” Wecksell who has over $800,000 in prize winnings to his name.
