Danish esports team and organization Astralis was found in 2016 and is partly owned by competitors from the former Team SoloMid and Team Questionmark teams.
Its parent Astralis Group is worth in the region of $75 million and recently became the first esports team and business to launch an IPO and publicly list its shares. Astralis has also recently partnered with Italy’s Juventus football club to run the traditional sports team’s esports endeavours. Astralis fields successful teams in CS:GO and League of Legends. Recent successes include winning the IEM Katowice Major and StarLadder Major: Berlin in 2019.
The team’s first event was DreamHack Leipzig 2016 where they placed top of their group but lost in the semi-final to Luminosity Gaming. In 2019 Astralis picked up its third major title, the IEM Katowice Major, but lost it’s CS:GO dominance and now appears to have been overtaken by Team Liquid, now the number one CS:GO roster in the world. The StarLadder Major in Berlin did see Astralis become the first CS:GO team in history to win three consecutive majors and the first esports team to achieve four major wins.
The Danish group’s CS:GO roster has an all Dane line up consisting of Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander, Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth, Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen, Emil “Magisk” Reif and Danny “zonic” Sørensen. As per Esports Earnings Astralis has won over $8 million in prize money from a total of 84 tournaments, this to March 2020. Five of the Astralis key roster have all taken home over $1 million each in prize money.
