How to spectate in Fortnite

There were many features that were introduced to the game in Fortnite Chapter 2, and one of those features was a quality of life improvement which allows players to spectate friends whilst they are waiting in a lobby.

Before this time, there would usually be a lot of confusion when friends would hop on to play with one another but at different times. More often than not, if players opted to play a game whilst their friends were already in one, the timings would hardly ever match.

Fortnite previously allowed players to join parties with friends who were already in a game and this is where the confusion lied. Your only option would either be to patiently wait for your friend/friends to finish their game off or to quit and start a game of your own, but this could mean you may miss the window of timing where your friends would finish theirs.

However, now Epic Games allows the player to do something and keep entertained when you join your friends’ party, as instead of backing out and starting your own game (because let’s be honest, not a lot of us have the patience to sit there and wait!), you can spectate your friends and witness their games instead.

At the time, the feedback from the community was extremely positive and the addition has since been one of the best minor features to have been added to the game.

In order to spectate your friends while in a lobby, they will need to have been in the game for over 30 seconds (you won’t be able to spectate them before the drop). If that requirement is fulfilled then you can just click their name and choose to watch their game.

One of the drawbacks to the spectate feature is that you cannot spectate the game if there is another member of the party who is also inactive from the current game, so if you have another friend who is sitting around and waiting, then it will not allow you to spectate the match.
