One of the most popular Rainbow Six Siege players of all time, Niclas "Pengu" Mouritzen, has stepped down from competitive Rainbow Six Siege. Pengu R6 steps down from the G2 roster after two Six Invitational wins and several European league trophies and accolades.

Pengu's Decorated Career

Pengu R6 is one of the most decorated players in all of Rainbow Six Siege. The player began his career in 2016, rising from the ranks of low elo before making his way to the solo queue ladder. In 2016, PENTA Sports acquired Pengu, becoming one of the most dominant teams for several years.

His achievements on PENTA sports include claiming first place in some of the professional Rainbow Six Siege’s earliest events. Pengu’s Rainbow Six achievements involve the likes of R6’s Year 1 Season 1 Finals, including back-to-back Six Invitational trophies in 2018 and 2019 events. Pengu even lifted the first-ever Six Major trophy in Paris, where the prestigious brand, G2 Esports signed them beforehand.

It was only in the middle of 2019 other teams had finally caught up to Pengu and his roster. Team Empire was the first team to dethrone G2 Esports at the Raleigh Six Major 2019. Furthermore, Natus Vincere denied them another trophy at the following ESL Pro League Season.

The trend continued moving into the Six Invitational 2020, with the now G2 Esports line-up shaking up. Pengu R6 was the only remaining core member of the old PENTA roster as the roster picked up fragging power and became one of the first European Super Teams. While the project started off slow, G2 Esports eventually gained pace, culminating in G2 Esports lifting the European League 2020 Finals trophy.

With a fitting end to the 2020 Season, Pengu has stepped down before the 2021 Rainbow Six Esports season kicks off. Although, he alluded to there being more to come for Pengu R6 career. But for now, he will no longer be a part of the fighting essence of Rainbow Six Esports.

The announcement of Pengu’s Rainbow Six career coming to a sudden alt is sad news. However, Pengu stepping down is something that everyone should celebrate. He is one of the greatest players ever to touch the game. He has stepped down at a perfect time after a great career with a fantastic conclusion. Not many players have that privilege, therefore, one of the greatest players has a great legacy to match.
