With massive online video games such as League of Legends, CS:GO and Valorant, sometimes you will find that the developers deliberately make the game free to play and free to download, as this acts as an incentive for more players to feel attracted to the game. After all, who doesn’t like free stuff?

But of course, there still has to be ways in which the developers and the company makes some revenue back from spending millions of dollars on producing the game in the first place, otherwise the company would cease to exist and would eventually fold.

That is why games such as League, CS:GO, Dota 2 and Valorant offer loot that players are able to purchase in-game and as a result, there is usually some form of currency in-game that may be bought in exchange for real money spent.

This exclusive currency cannot be used to gain unfair advantages on other players who choose not to spend money and so the two players have an equal shot at climbing the competitive leaderboard, with or without the spending on real money.

Instead, the exclusive currency is used to enhance visual effects, most notably skins that change the appearance of your favorite characters or weapons. Sometimes the currency may be used to unlock certain characters in a shorter space of time but this does not give a player the advantage over someone else; rather it means that the player who chose to spend money to unlock a character was simply more impatient than the one who didn’t.

Valorant Points and Radianite Points

Each game has its own form of currency and in Valorant there are two: Valorant Points and Radianite Points. Valorant Points may be purchased directly from the shop in-game and they can in turn be converted to Radianite Points if the player chooses to do so to gain bonus loot and other cosmetics.

Radianite Points (RP) may also be obtained by completing contracts in the Battle Pass and they may be spent to evolve a weapon with new VFX, audio, animations, finishers and variants of skins on some gun skins that are bought from the store.

RP can be gained from trading in Valorant Points (VP), however, once traded RP cannot be transferred back to VP so you must think hard before purchasing! RP cannot be used to buy Agents or tiers on the Battle Pass.

Riot Games has stated that “as we develop new features, we hope you’ll be able to use it (RP) to buy more Gun Buddies, upgrade Player Cards and Sprays in addition to what is currently just weapon skins.” - Riot Revenue Lead, John Lee.

How to get Radianite Points

  • The first method is to play and earn these points from the battle pass. The Tiers - four and nine, offer extra RP of 20 upon completion, but this could change depending on the Act/Episode.
  • The second method is to directly buy RP with VP which is the other source of currency in the game but which can only be bought and not earned. Every 1,600 VP will allow you to purchase 20 points of RP. However, the VP cost will be increased to 2,000 during Valorant's official release.
